HISTORY

Situated near the 18th century British military base of Fort York, Liberty Village has a unique place within the history of Toronto. Initial plans for residential use were changed when the rail way and large industry made this area home. The name its self comes from Liberty Street which turned out to be the first street that lead out of what was once a prison in the area but closed its doors over 100 years ago. After many years of industrial growth the area altered its preference for big business to those looking to take advantage of its terrific location within the city. The art district of King and Queen Street west, the financial core, and Lake Shore Boulevard are all within 20 minutes via streetcar or walk respectively.
